WHAT IS EMDR THERAPY?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a research-supported therapy that helps the nervous system reprocess distressing or overwhelming experiences so they no longer feel as intense in the present.

When something painful happens, your brain doesn’t always get the chance to fully process it. Instead, parts of the experience can remain “stuck” in the body, emotions, or belief system, shaping how you respond to stress, relationships, or conflict long after the event has passed.

EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, taps, or tones) to activate the brain’s natural information-processing system. Over time, the emotional charge around certain memories softens. You’re not erasing the past. You’re helping it stay in the past, rather than continuing to intrude on the present.

Do you identify with any of these?

  • You feel easily overwhelmed, on edge, or emotionally flooded
  • Certain reactions feel bigger than the situation at hand
  • You experience emotional shutdown, numbness, or disconnection
  • Memories feel intrusive, vivid, or uncomfortably close
  • You repeat patterns even when you “know better”
  • You struggle with hypervigilance, anxiety, or a constant sense of threat
  • You understand your history but still feel triggered or stuck

EMDR at LiteMinded is relational, paced, and deeply attuned. It’s never rushed or mechanical.

Before any reprocessing begins, we spend time helping you feel safe in your body, connected to your therapist, emotionally resourced, and clear on your goals. This preparation phase is essential. It ensures your nervous system has enough stability and support to engage in deeper work without becoming overwhelmed.

Throughout the process, your therapist stays closely attuned to your experience, adjusting pace and approach as needed. You are not doing this alone.

BENEFITS OF EMDR THERAPY

TAILORED, EVIDENCE-BASED EMDR THERAPY

We integrate EMDR with somatic and nervous-system-based work, parts-informed (IFS) approaches, attachment-focused relational therapy, mindfulness, and psychodynamic insight.

Your therapist works with you to understand not just what happened, but how your system adapted to survive it. This holistic approach allows us to address both symptoms and deeper patterns, at a pace that respects your capacity and supports lasting change.
